Decorating the walls is a painstaking work, consisting of many stages. The first and most important of them is the preparation of walls for decorative plaster, which determines the appearance of further decor.
Why do you need to prepare walls for decorative plaster
Preparation for decorative plaster is a rather painstaking process, but really necessary. Since decorative mixes are quite expensive, it is best that the surfaces to which they have been applied look perfect. Otherwise, minor flaws will increase the consumption of plaster, significantly hitting the budget.
In addition, the walls must be perfectly flat and clean, since the decorative finish is applied in a thin layer. If you skip the primer and the putty process, then soon the decor will move away from the wall and crumble.
Preparing walls for decorative Venetian plaster: what you need to know
To ensure the best application of the Venetian plaster to the surface of the wall and to prolong its life, it is necessary to make a thorough preparation beforehand.
You need to follow these basic steps:
1. Cleaning: removal of dirt, whitewash and obsolete paint layers;
2. Leveling: sanding the surface, leveling the wall and filling irregularities;
3. Processing: covering the walls with soil, creating texture on the surface.
To apply decorative Venetian plaster, the surface must be perfectly clean, even, without defects. You may need to repeat the above steps two or even three times. Otherwise, the wow effect after application will not be provided. Let's take a closer look at each of the stages.
Preparing walls for decorative plaster: the main steps
In the process of renovating premises, it is necessary to follow a clear work algorithm in order to prepare surfaces for decoration and obtain a unique appearance as a result.
Stripping
Before applying the plaster to the surface, it is necessary to remove the previous coating from it in advance. The wall should be completely clean, dry and free of dust, which will make it easier to spot irregularities on it. Their elimination will allow avoiding the outflow of heat and the penetration of moisture into the layers of the plaster, as a result of which it will not crumble and crack.
If dark spots from fungus or mold were detected, they must be treated with special agents (antiseptics and biocides) and the affected areas must be cleaned.
Important! The walls are washed with clean water without the addition of detergents. Otherwise, the level of adhesion between the wall and the material will be significantly reduced.

Alignment
Required if surfaces have cracks, distortions and other defects. For this, you can use cheaper types of plaster. For example, cement, plaster and others.
If there are curvatures on the surfaces, it is better to correct them with putty. In this case, subsequent structural coatings, for example, "woodworm like structure" or "lambswool like structure", will hold better and look more spectacular.
The minimum layer thickness to which the finishing putty should be applied must be at least 1 mm.
Treatment
At this stage, you need to use a primer for painting the walls with decorative solutions. It is best to use solutions that penetrate deeply inside, allowing them to completely saturate the primary layer of plaster.
With the help of a primer, the wall is strengthened, which, as a result, prevents it from shedding during long-term operation. As a result, after the priming layer dries, a film forms on the surface of the wall, on which any coating can easily be applied.
This is followed by another necessary stage of preparation - the creation of the texture. It is advisable to use it if a special type of plaster is used that does not adhere well to smooth coatings. This is solved by using a primer paint with quartz or other filler. It is recommended to apply it on surfaces, for example, drywall, after the reinforcing primer. As a result, the desired roughness is obtained and adhesion is increased, due to which the plaster adheres better to the wall surface.
